that bans both offshore oil drilling and the use of electronic cigarettes in most enclosed workplaces. How are these two things related? They aren't.
Amendment 9 was one of four, yes four, insane Florida measures that pulled together completely unrelated items. The amendment bans drilling for oil or natural gas in the state's territorial waters, and also bans the use of electronic cigarettes or vaping of eLiquids in workplaces.
Exceptions were made for private homes used for businesses other than childcare, elder care or health care, stand-alone bars, designated hotel rooms, tobacco and thankfully vape shops and provisioners of eLiquids.
Sane opponents to the measure argued that each constitutional amendment should only cover one single issue. The other three combined measures ranged from age extensions for retiring judges to a supermajority vote for college fees.
