What is vaping? The quick rundown.

Often times you'll come across someone who just has no clue about vaping, and of course as a vaper you're going to be all excited and tell them how awesome it is that vaping helped you quit smoking and stay off cigs for months and years.   Well in case you don't have the time or don't want to appear too biased, we've got a quick run down of questions and answers about vaping for you to use.

What is vaping?

Vaping is an alternative to smoking.  A battery is used to heat a specialized liquid, often called eLiquid, vape sauce, or eJuice, that produces vapor which is then inhaled.

How safe is vaping?

According to public health England vaping is 95% safer than smoking.  The last 5% is largely due to a lack of long term research.  Nicotine may be present in the liquid but it is at a dosage similar to the amount of caffeine in coffee or tea.

What’s in eLiquid?

There are three and sometimes four ingredients in eLiquid.  They are:

Propylene glycol, which is also used in food products and medical inhalers.

Vegetable glycerine.  Also commonly used in food products and cosmetics.

Food grade flavoring, which goes into almost any type of processed food product.

And optionally Nicotine, which is extracted tobacco plants.

What about the secondhand effects of vaping?

The vapor that is exhaled from a vaper has particle matter comparable to an empty room, and the nicotine levels are too low to have any feasible pharmacological effect.  The air on a busy road is more dangerous than second hand vape.

Does vaping cause popcorn lung?

Diacetyl was in a few cases found to cause popcorn lung, but the majority of the industry has shifted away from using diacetyl entirely, all on it’s own without any regulation.

Do e-cigarettes explode?

No, improper use and handling of lithium batteries causes batteries in some mods to rarely explode.  The same kind of issue you’d have with your laptop or tablet if it was mishandled.  This has yet to be an issue for the lower wattage nic salt devices.

Does vaping appeal to kids?

Research shows that these products appeal almost exclusively to those who already smoke combustion cigarettes and users of chewing tobaccos.

Is this just another big tobacco ploy?

Not at all, the vape industry is entirely populated with small to successful startups, and has become a grassroots movement around the world.
